A proven model for pooling in the North Sea which is cutting costs and carbon

As the offshore energy sector focuses on how to optimise, streamline, and decarbonise operations, logistics and supply chain solutions expert is sharing insights from its 20 years as manager and facilitator of the Southern North Sea (SNS) Pool.

The Pool, serviced from Den Helder, brings together ten operators to successfully share vessels, land transport and supply base services, servicing 150 offshore locations.

Steef Ritzema, Managing Director (Netherlands and Middle East) at Peterson, said:

Pooling and sharing are incredibly effective in terms of reducing costs, cutting carbon, and making operations smoother – as well as benefitting from more connected access to services and personnel.

“This model has worked incredibly well in the Netherlands across the offshore energy space, including both oil and gas and offshore wind, and there is a real opportunity for the lessons learned in the Southern North Sea to be exported globally – particularly in other parts of the North Sea and in the Gulf regions.”

The SNS Pool cuts logistics costs by up to 36% for operators and reduces carbon by 5.5mkg annually. The innovation, sustainable approaches, and connected operations across activities provides a template that could be replicated in offshore energy clusters globally.
