Operational excellence at our IJmuiden base

Our site at IJmuiden was officially opened in October 2025 and, since then, has become fully established, working to meet the rapidly growing demand in the offshore wind industry as well as supporting clients in the existing oil and gas sector.

IJmuiden is our southernmost base in the Netherlands, located on the coast about 30 minutes’ drive west of Amsterdam. It is known as being a key Dutch hub for offshore wind energy infrastructure, installation, and maintenance, while also supporting smaller North Sea oil and gas operations.

From IJmuiden, Peterson Energies offers a wide range of integrated logistics services, including agency services, warehousing, customs clearance, and the coordination of crew transfer vessels (CTVs).

Meindert de Haas has been in the role of Business Lead since the site was originally formed and is responsible for managing existing clients as well as developing new business.

Meindert said:

IJmuiden was carefully selected because of the significant growth and development of the offshore wind industry in the region. We recognised the opportunities this market offers and strategically positioned our site to support both existing and future offshore energy projects.

“One of the key advantages of our IJmuiden facility is our extensive storage capacity. We have significant warehousing facilities, multiple storage buildings, and a spacious outdoor yard. This enables us to handle a wide variety of projects and provide flexible logistics solutions for our customers.

“Over the coming months, our main priority is to look at ways to maximise the use of both our indoor and outdoor storage facilities, to help optimise our set up for our clients.”

Thanks to its strategic location, strong local presence, and international expertise, Peterson Energies is well placed at IJmuiden to provide logistics solutions that support both the continued growth of traditional energy projects from the Port of IJmuiden and renewables projects across the North Sea.

Supporting Meindert at the site is Peter van Kampen. Since joining Peterson last year, Peter has played a vital part in getting the IJmuiden operations up and running, in his role as Supervisor.

Peter said:

It’s important in my role to stay closely connected to everything happening in the port area while ensuring our customers receive the best possible service. Supporting our clients and responding to their day-to-day needs is a key part of my job.

“On a typical day I welcome drivers arriving to load or unload cargo, receive courier deliveries, assist customers, and operate forklifts in the warehouse and on the yard. Occasionally, I have been asked to work offshore for one of our clients supporting a variety of their operational activities.

“Prior to working with Peterson, I was based at the IJmuiden location with Ymond Offshore Logistics for many years before the company was acquired by Peterson, which means I have in-depth knowledge of the site and its history.

“I enjoy being able to work outdoors and to interact with people every day. The variety in the job means I’m never in the same place for long, and every day brings something different.

“By delivering excellent service and supporting our customers, I see myself as helping to strengthen Peterson’s reputation and contribute to the company’s continued growth.”
